The Beach Boys

The Rolling Stones

I know it may be an unusual match up but I figured Beatles vs. Stones wouldn't bring many different opinions. Anyways, here are the previous results:

week 1: Barry Manilow defeated Michael Bolton
week 2: Simon and Garfunkel defeated Hall and Oates
week 3: Elton John defeated Billy Joel
week 4: Oasis defeated Blur
week 5: Notorious BIG defeated Tupac

"Is everybody ready? The biggest band with the biggest ego. The greatest rock 'n roll band, the Rolling Stones! Rolling Stones...."

Stones easily and I'm not a hard core Stones guy. Pet Sounds is good in spots but I never understood the whole "American Magical Mystery Tour" thing. Wouldn't it be Nice is a classic.

The Beach Boys are great and certainly legends themselves but this is a no brainer

Stones big

Brian Wilson was a genius/mad man and Smile is beautiful, but you can't argue with the body of work from the Stones.

This is a terrible match up. Way too lopsided and the Beach Boys stood no chance.

I love the Beach Boys. I like the Stones. But the Stones win this hands down.

Stones

This one was tough for me. I like the beach boys at their peak (Pet Sounds) quite a bit, and I think I might have a higher opinion of them overall had they been able to stay at that Pet Sounds level. But they didn't.

So while I think the Rolling Stones are overrated*, I have to go with them here.

*That said, Beast of Burden is one of my favorite songs of all time.

This is interesting.

The only band I can think of that would be a legit match up for The Stones would be U2 (hear me out). I think The Beatles would have to be consensus #1 - after that - in terms of hits, influence and longevity are there any bands closer to the Beatles? Zep? The Who? Both great bands but not even in the same league, as far as commercial success goes.

I think you'd be surprised. I would like to see a Beatles vs. Zep matchup. I would vote Zep. I actually would vote a lot of bands over the Beatles, but I realize that others wouldn't. That said, I think Zep would be one that people *would* vote over the Beatles. Be interesting to see.

I do think that U2 vs. The Stones would be an interesting matchup.

The Beach Boys are one of the few bands I'd consider for Greatest American Rock Band. And even with that, the Stones crush them.

Really, the only band I'd have a tough time voting for the Stones against is the Clash. Greatest Rock Band Ever.

Why? Biggie had some of the best lyrics and flow ever. Tupac is for white wanna be gangstas.
