Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland died of a toxic mix of drugs that included cocaine, according to a medical examiner's office in Minnesota where he was found dead on his tour bus in early December.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday that the 48-year-old Weiland had cocaine, ethanol and the amphetamine MDA in his system. The medical examiner also noted a history of cardiovascular disease, asthma and multi-substance dependence.

Not surprised at all, yet it's still sad for this to be his ending,.

Though I never figured it would be coke that took him out.

That's the shocking part for me, too, Roger. But, he was probably never a true "heroin" only guy. Sounds like he was a poly that had a bad heroin problem, then stumbled into a bad stimulant problem here at the end.

Yeah, gotta say he lasted longer than I thought he would have.

You need to put the brakes on coke as you enter middle age; the cardiovascular system rebels against it.

I thought it was going to kill me in my 20's and I didn't use it often.

The strange thing is that he was scheduled to play Friday of the next week before he died at a club in NW Houston, less than 6 blocks from my house...

As is usually the case Ace, you don't know what you're talking about. Do you really have no idea how clueless you are?
Cocaine was always one of if not his major problem. In his first Rolling Stone interview after he had his first brush with the law but was still in STP (mid to late 90s), he was interviewed in his tour bus between gigs. In the interview he talked about how he had trouble procuring needles while on tour so Scott just had his coke dealer bring them with him when Scott would have him flown to whatever town the next show was in when he needed another couple ounces of cocaine. Weiland relayed this tale as he sat in his bunk eating a plate of fruit and trying to portray himself as a changed and reformed man to the interviewer. The person doing the interview had been around enough to see the bullshite before him and it came through in the story.

I said he was a poly. He definitely had a bad heroin problem. I was unaware he had a bad coke problem.

So he was speedballing before? Like many polys do?
He was using heroin as early as the Core tour (his mid-20s). If he was having trouble with coke before, I didn't hear stories specific to that. He was in rehab, famously, over a dozen times.
Again, RIP.

Yet he had no opiates in his system when he overdosed.

Maybe he kicked heroin and stayed away from it? Then had a bad, bad, bad crack habit the last couple of years (we're hearing now that he's dead.)
Is there any question the cat had a problem with addictions? He was a singer who chain smoked on stage, during performances.
