It’s interesting what chords people struggle with. I can do the three finger or four finger G with no problem. It’s that stretch for C that drives me nuts. E, D and A are not problem. I just haven’t figured out which way to finger A that I prefer but I think it going to be 3-5 as that makes for a simple transition to E as opposed to the Justin guitar 2-4.

just pick which way you want and do it. The key is to keep playing. Eventually, you'll be playing the same chord multiple different ways in the same song.

why settle on just one way?

Not to get deeply into voicings, although that also matters, sometimes ya just need part of that chord. And often times one way is easier because of what was played before.

Take (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay for instance**. In G I like to follow the opening G then B with a real simple slide from that B to a C-B-Bb-A using a short barre on strings 2-3-4 (for all those B,Bb,C,and A's) Which would be sliding from fret 4, to 5, back to 4, to 3, to 2 ... and getting whatever you can on top string(s).* Primarily, but not religiously, playing the center four strings. It's like cheating and I can do it the other way and do depending on where in the song, or how I feel that day, or if playing with anyone else, or if I'm singing. It's just part of the example of letting the ease of form dictate what I'm going for at times.

Another example you've possibly seen... might be learning to make an 'E' with a different group of three fingers. Instead of only just one way.

(*for me a thumb over top two is real easy - but standard A-type short barre for most people) ** and yep, an old guy
