Finally bought my first guitar

I found a lightly played (supposedly) Yamaha fg-ta sunburst for 400 on reverb and jumped on it. Pretty excited boys!

Put your hands on it everyday. When they’re sore still put your hands on it. Unless you’re a guitar idiot savant it’s going to take time to see any results. Be patient. And put your hands on your guitar everyday.

You got a heck of a deal on that. I didn't know that Yamaha was putting anything out like that.
I am definitely going to check those out, and may have to do some trading.
What have you been playing?

My boss gave me a cheap beater fender to borrow when I told him I was trying to learnZ I’ve had it since January so it was time

Take it and get it set-up as well as you can. If you live close to Baton Rouge, be sure and take it to Fret Shack.

I’d love to, but I’m in Denver. There is a boutique string instrument shop randomly near my house. I’m going to check that out as soon as quarantine is over.
Believe I’ll be naming it Rona as tribute

They only toured on Sunday, right?

A few questions: What should I be looking for or paying attention to when this guitar arrives?
What does a "set-up" entail and how much should it cost (ballpark)?

On an acoustic, it's mainly about the height of the strings from the fretboard. That's called "The Action". You want your strings close to your fretboard, to make them easy to chord, all the way up the neck, but you don't want it so close that your strings buzz on any frets.
It may already be fine. Since it's a used guitar, there's no way to know, what the original buyer had done to it. I doubt it will need more than just a bit of tweaking. It won't cost much, I'm sure, and you may like it the way it is.

Very cool.
I'll try to figure out how to post pics when it gets in. Expected delivery date: 4/20. No surprise there. I work in the commercial industry. Nice little gift

It seems like Yamaha makes at least one of everything and nobody ever says they aren't any good.
Congrats.

Have you checked out that particular Yamaha Model? They took the Tonewood acoustic amplifier and installed it inside the guitar so it has built if effects, without plugging into an amp. It has chorus and delay and reverb, just playing like an acoustic.
It's pretty bad arse.

Thanks!
I've had some mixed opinions about it from diff people. Some say they wouldnt touch it, others are more in line with what you said. For 400, if it sucks, I can prob sell it and profit. Or, if I like it, for 400 I'll keep it forever and upgrade.
My stance now, is that I have been playing for 4 months and have stuck with it, so time to get something of my own for a entry price. After another year, if I'm still playing, I'll buy myself an heirloom

If you don't like it, you let me know.
I think you will like it fine.

Will do! I'm eager for it to get here. I happen to work with a few guys in a well known bluegrass band around these parts (Head for the Hills) and am interested in hearing what they have to say when it gets in. Shipped it to work, so they will prob play it before I do lol

No.
Yamaha acquired Line 6 in 2013, so...

...doesn't surprise me at all.
Yamaha is one of the great musical instrument companies of all time, and probably underrated.

Good score! Detective work via Google should help you find a reputable guitar tech in Denver. But PM me if you strike out because both my guitar-playing adult sons live in Denver suburbs. I can get them to tell me who's the local ace of choice you should seek out.

Word of caution about those bluegrass pickers, they tend to like their action, to be set higher than most other people. They might tell you the opposite of what anybody else would.
I checked out a couple of their videos on youtube. They are a very good band.
