Fair to Midland - Your band of the day

this band has become my favorite band since I saw them in 2009 at the Varsity with Pilot and zealot.
they are an interesting genre. they can rock hard, create amazing softer melodies, or even throw in a hint of country or bluegrass to point to their Texas roots (from Sulphur Springs.)
I think they are geniuses musically, but apparently their work cannot be appreciated by the masses, evidenced by an acoustic show they put on last year that I went to, that was to raise money to fund their Australian tour.
This song, Amarillo Sleeps On My Pillow, is from their newest album, Arrows & Anchors. This is a version they recorded in Denton, Texas when they were there for the acoustic show. This song has quickly become my favorite song at the moment, and this version blows my mind with awesomeness.
I've met all of the guys twice now, and they are all the epitome of what you grow up thinking musicians are. They play because they love it and they love their fans

I'm a huge FTM fan. I was kind of turned off by the way that John and Brett left the band (Brett in particular), but I'll always appreciate them. I've actually known the fill-in bassist since about 2002, so it was awesome that he got picked, but I don't think it's permanent. He's touring with 10 Years now. Their live shows can be hit or miss depending on Darroh's condition. His mental state changes and his voice takes a pounding on tour.
I've actually met them on multiple occasions and actually got to hang out with them and Scale the Summit for a couple of hours after the show. We were looking at stickers bands has placed on the walls in the back room and bonded over Unknown Hinson.
They are all really cool guys, but you have to be careful with Andrew (I really think Darroh is an entirely different persona). He becomes an entirely different person for shows. When I saw them in Little Rock, he ran up to me beforehand and gave me a big hug. 2 hours later, he was screaming at some random fan that he was going to kill him. Craziest shite I've ever seen from a performer. An hour later, he was begging the guy for forgiveness.

what happened with this? it was strange to me.
When I saw them at Andy's Bar for the acoustic show, I talked to Logan, the new drummer, for about 30 minutes before the show, and then Ryan came and talked for awhile too, then Darroh for a bit. I told them I'd been obsessed with them for years and they all gave me a huge hug and said thanks

he is so crazy and that's why I love him. Always climbing up shite and acting insane
Cliff is the best though. Always so fricking happy no matter what he's doing. That skinny bastard

The night you made me fall in love with this band
the guy that filmed this and put it together was pretty cool.
I'll give anyone 5 dollars if they can spot us

I really don't know the full story. Brett has basically avoided the topic when I've talked to him about it. From all I can gather, I think John had issues with one or more of the other members' behavior. I think Brett was upset by that and other decisions around the time. They just lost their bassist and Andrew's voice was totally shot, but they kept moving forward with recording a live DVD, which turned out rather poor because of it. It just seemed like a bit of infighting and power struggle that took them apart.
I consider Ryan a friend and actually called for him to be the replacement, but John just had something that will be missed. Listen to the bass line in Musical Chairs. It just has a uniqueness to it. With Logan, I can see talent there, I'm just still not sold on the match. Brett just has a lot more feel and swing to his playing.

as a bass player, I've heard nothing like the bass playing during the verses of that song. It's incredible

Maybe they'll somehow convince Jordan Eberhardt to get back in the game and join the band....

No doubt about that. I was all over their message board posting about Ryan as an option before he was announced. It just seemed too right now to happen. Knowing all of them, they are pretty similar and Ryan is versatile.
If you aren't familiar, you should get Tierra Tragame from Opus Dai. It was another really good album. The guitarist, Atsushi, uses interesting techniques.
Anyway, they booted their old singer, Chris Paul, and Ryan left not long after that. They have since kind of flickered out, but that album was worth checking out.

Dude, I couldn't get a fricking soul to go to that Varsity show with me. Since then, 4 of the 5 people I was begging to go have turned into total fanboys.
In other news: I just learned that Andrew and Krysta (former singer of iwrestledabearonce) are expecting a baby.
