When I think "epic" (rarely):

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Emerson Lake and Palmer - Karn Evil 9, Pictures at an Exhibition, Tarkus Medley
Joe Cocker - With a Little Help
Frank Zappa - The Gumbo Variations
The Who - My Generation (Live at Leeds version)
Etc.

Maybe I'm confusing "epic' and "epoch".
