Died 44 years today at the young age of 42.
One of the few celebrities that I remember when and where I was when I heard the news.

I do too. Was 6 years old and remember hearing it on the news.

I just listened to Elvis Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite yesterday. Great album.

"I like to entertain people. That’s why I pick all my records and try to pick the best songs possible. I try to do the best I can in the movies, with the experience that I’ve gotten, and everything. But I look at myself strictly as a human being who’s, like I said, has been very lucky, but whose life…I have blood running through my veins…and can be snuffed out in just a matter of seconds, and not as anything supernatural or better than any other human being."

I was a teenager when he died, and wasn't a big fan yet. Still though, when it was announced, I was working in my Mom's flower bed, that was like a little rectangle between our sidewalk and front porch. I was digging up some crappy shrubs to plant some azaleas or something, and was sweating like hell. It was hot.
My Mom came out on the porch crying, and told me that Elvis died. I just thought, " so what, we don't know him". I remember it though.

I’m 40 and don’t really remember my parents ever listing to him.

I'm 68 and my parents used to pile the whole family into the station wagon with pillows, blankets, and snacks and drive to the drive-in theater and watch Elvis movies.
