I have an opportunity to trade for an Eastman E8D acoustic, anyone have any experience with Eastmans?

Haven't looked at them, or played them at all, but I have seen them there in some good guitar stores. They have to be pretty good.
I see that that is not exactly cheap. Over 1000.00 list, brand new. Have you searched online to see what they are bringing used?
If you don't see many for sale used.. that's a good thing. Buy it if it feels right.

They seem to run about $1100.
Thinking of trading my 1987 Martin Shenandoah D3532 for it. I think I'd be losing the brand name (Martin) but gaining some quality in the trade since the Eastman is solid wood and my Martin is laminate back and sides. Really want something a little more bassy and the E8D seems to be built very similarly to a HD28 (materials wise at least).

Went ahead and pulled the trigger, this thing has some beautiful wood grain.
Sounds amazing, rings like a bell and has some deep bass notes. Very comparable to a HD28 in my opinion. Solid Sitka spruce top with solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Ebony fingerboard (IIRC) and bone nut and saddle. Also has a Fishman pickup. Has more of a narrow neck as compared to a C neck.
Great value for the money, I paid $900 for the guitar that I traded for it.

I think that grain pattern in the Sitka spruce is called silking

Sorry I'm late to the party, but GREAT score. I would have told you "go for it" had I piped in a few days ago.

Really like the look of the back of that neck, looks slick as hell.

I think you did well.

Buddy of mine around Madison, MS found the same model in a pawn shop for $300 and had it for awhile then sold it to a friend for about the same without knowing what it was
Mine has a Fishman pickup but I'm not really sure if that was stock or added by the previous owner.
Either way, I'm completely happy and this will likely be my new "daily driver" acoustic. There's nothing a Martin D28 offers me that this one doesnt, in my opinion.

Specs said it was a mahogany neck IIRC.

I'm sure it is, but the wear of the finish makes me think that it is really slick and plays nice.

It is and does.
Also its much less pronounced than a C neck (not sure of the term for that). More similar to an Taylor neck.
Its also very light compared to a D28 but feels very good, like it just feels like a quality product.
Nothing I'd really change about this thing except maybe have it in a really nice tobacco sunburst.

Been two weeks since I got this, impressed as hell with Eastman.
This is the best guitar I've ever owned and my girlfriend's brother says its the best he's ever played.
