Art developed into different styles as has music do their styles mirror each other?

Classical Music- Classical/Renaissance Art
Classic Rock-Impressionism/expressionism
80s/90s/00s pop- pop art
dubstep- abstract expressionism

Classic Rock, imo, cloesely resembles the impressionism movement as its seen as the most popular movement of the modern era and is kind of a distortion of previously standard music.

Are we headed to were music's quality, like modern art, is judged based not on the final product but the method in producing it?

(this is just a loose theory i thought of in class one day havent done any real research) Thoughts?

every art form is a snapshot of that particular time pertaining to social statements and/or political climates and they all interact. Each one whether it be literature, art, or music, theatre, film, all blend together at that point in history to make commentary.

So in one sense you are correct, but your examples are way off.

I hate dubstep

What I am trying to say that yes music and art during their time mirrored soceity but it seems the progression of rock mirrors lags behind the art movements by about 30-50 years.

Music doesn't lag behind... POPULAR ART lags behind. The mainstream is always behind the artistic movements, as it takes time for the avant garde to be swallowed by the mainstream.
