When did Country music start sucking so bad?
I mostly blame Garth Brooks and Shania Twain

Where did it all go wrong?
I think the biggest problem now is the fact that stations feel like they have to play an equal amount of women singers as men. Then you get these watered down girly songs like Taylor Swift and bunch of other ding bats are singing.

Why did this happen?
Guess it happened because teeny-boppers are the ones that buy the majority of music and that's what they want to hear.

What can be done to reverse the trend?
I'm stumped on that one.

Do not have youtube at work, so I am assuming that is Eric Church. I keep his 3 Cd's on rotate in my car. He has so many good songs that no one knows about.
Also, put on a damn good show in Nashville not too long ago.

Ten 90's Country Songs You Forgot....that beat anything on the radio today. Think about how much actual competition there was back then for air time.

Good stuff. I always liked Singletary and asked what happened to him in a thread about country music on the O-T a year or so ago and a person who claimed to be familiar with the workings of some artists said he just didn't have start appeal or something. Great voice though.

His "I Still Sing This Way" and "Straight From the Heart" are awesome albums too.
I know I'm late to the party, but I put most of the blame on the whole Shania Twain deal. She was celebrated for "crossing over" and given all kinds of awards. They've always had pop country artists, but none were worshiped by radio, tv, media, etc like she was.

The execs of the record labels are the ones that call the shots. That's where the blame lies ultimately. Hopefully someone like Dunn will have some big time success and get Nashville execs to take notice and make moves to take some pop out of their country.

They need to hire me as a consultant.
I'd wish I could buy the rights to the Louisiana Hayride and start a nightly radio show and weekly performances of real country. Start a whole new movement.

Just revive the neotraditional movement. Bring all of the alum of that movement into the decision making process.

I think they're mostly all dead. They had quite a few country singers from North Louisiana around that period: Faron Young, Webb Pierce, and some more I can't think of.

I am checking this out as we speak
I will pass judgement shortly.
ETA: This cannot possibly be considered country music. No fricking way. This is 100% pop.
