The Les Paul will give you a different sound than your Mexican Strat because of the humbucker pickups. The Tele you showed has a humbucker in the bridge pickup, so the difference would not be dramatic, but it would be there. So if you're looking for a different sound, go with the Les Paul.

Fwiw, I have a 2001 Les Paul Standard, a USA made G&L Tele (ASAT-with F-hole), and an Eastman T386, with Seth Lover pickups. They're all great, but the Tele is the most versatile.

I played that Gibson at Guitar Center last week, and I don't recommend it.
It didn't sound like a typical LP, sounded dead, weak, and plain, like a cheap Epi. I'd go with the telecaster if that's what kind of sound you're into.

If you want a Les Paul, maybe look into the used market because that 2016 gold top is garbage.

I'll say it again but for my money you can't beat G&L, and for that budget you could pick up any tribute series that rivals an American made Fender, if not exceeds it.

For example Asat Bluesboy: gets you a bucker in the neck and the Leo Fender MFD pickup for the spankin tele sound in the bridge.

Admittedly, I'm a minimalist when it comes to this stuff, meaning if the construction has been verified time and time again as solid, I can't justify the oceans of difference in price. You could hand me one of those Classic Vibe Series squier's and be more than happy on any stage.

Also, yea you can find tribute series or most any of this stuff for a lightly used, discounted rate on reverb. I play an ASAT special primarily that I picked up for 350 on reverb.

Telecaster, as much as I like the Gibson.

Used Gibson SG Standards from the early 2000s can usually be had for a good value if you watch ebay and reverb.

Big ups on that. I've had two Fender Teles. a MIM and a '72 Thinline. The USA G&L I have now is a far better instrument than either. This is what I have, but in Vintage White.

If they put some real effort into it, they could have made that guitar a little uglier.
