I havent heard but one chevelle album, their 2nd one. Are all of them good?

Yes they do, along with Helmet. And Chevelle's music resembles Helmet much more than Tool.
I do hear the Maynard influence in his singing style though.

While rock is not dead, it's certainly no where approaching a "golden age". That was the late 60s and 70s. Rock is like Baton Rouge. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's still not exactly in a good place and tetering in the edge of annihilation.

maybe I should have clarified
the subgenres of rock that bands like Chevelle and Tool would fall under are in a golden age. Progressive metal, etc
obviously, classic rock is not in a golden age
