And a lot of it is BS. Charley is all about branding and myth making not unlike many other musicians.

What station? I have XM and haven't heard him even once.

IMO, Charley Crockett is the best thing to come along with the honky tonk / outlaw sound since Hank 3 emerged in the early 2000's.
My buddy who doesn't really like country loves Charley. He's says that Charley makes old music sound new.
He's especially good with some bourbon in your belly and a fire.

Crazy. I listen to Breitbart Radio and Outlaw Radio almost exclusively and yet to hear him.
Must be my bad luck.

I'm speaking with direct knowledge of Charlie and the people he had helping him to create his image. I know people personally who acted as his stylists, same people who worked with Texas Gentlemen. My brother helped Charlie get his first management contract when he was still playing little bars in front of 20 people. Actually, my wife takes credit for playing Charlies music for my brother and within a month Charlie opened a couple of shows for my brother and signed with the same management team. That doc is very contrived to reinforce the image he wants to put out there. Again, I like his music and I don't blame him for creating an image, but just understand it is a creation.

Musicians have always built a myth around themselves and country musicians like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson....and my brother.... are some of the biggest perpetrators. It doesn't mean you can't like them but have to take their back stories with a grain of salt.

Yeah like how the gourds sing about how they’re from Compton or whatever in that one song. I think they’re really from Texas

I don’t think he’s the “best thing” in country music currently. He’s good, but I don’t think he’s actually very interesting at this point. A lot of the songs sound the same. He’s got his gimmick and it’s good but it’s repetitive.
Glad we're on the same page. I want to like the guy and his music, but I just can't get into it.

Just curious, how much were his tickets for his show at Chelsea's?

I really do like some of his songs. but a lot of "his songs" are actually covers of other peoples songs.

Is the Varsity still booking national acts, I think I've only seen them advertise cover bands. (nevermind: saw on their calendar that they booked Futurebirds and Vertical Horizon)
Texas Club is in like the worst location possible, but it's a huge venue.. I've only been once, saw Coheed there when BR had a alt rock station
