frick Islam*

His singing voice is rather weak and his songs are fairly unremarkable, but I do like this, which I just recently discovered:

LINK

It's a sunshine pop version of a song that was a hit for The Tremeloes in a frat rock cover.

Cat Stevens can’t hold Burt Bacharach’s jock when it comes to writing songs.

No one said he could (except the OP)

I remember Dennis Miller doing a joke about that back when Cat Stevens made statements endorsing the Ayatollah's death sentence...so much for that Peace Train crap, hey Cat?

No comparison, Merl had the better voice and was a much better songwriter. I could be wrong but I think he wrote 36 of his 38 number one hits.

He also did voice impressions of other famous singers almost perfectly.

Remember, at first he was all in to have Salman Rushdie killed for his book. I think he later mellowed on that idea and then he finally stopped his hardcore Islam beliefs enough to go ahead & play music again.
Back in the 70's, Stevens always had issues trying to "find himself"...
Speaking of musicians converting to Islam, the strangest has to be drummer John Alder (Twink) from the Pink Fairies! How do you go from wild acid head to Islam?
I think Islam probably wishes they could turn away Sinead O'Connor, that woman has always been troubled and will probably find something new in the next few years...

Remember this one? If I ever lose my hand, that I wipe my butt with, in the desert sand If I ever lose my hand, I won't get to eat, I won't get to eat, I won't get to eat no more.
