Allmusic has it released in 1998, same as wikipedia. I see no source that says it came out in 1997. What's the source for 1997?

Indie had already retreated back to the underground. Pavement, Archers, and Superchunk lead the way. Modest Mouse, the Elephant 6 collective, and Sleater-Kinney followed right there. I think by 1997, indie bands had almost completely foresaken the mainstream. Just as quickly as they had taken it over. It was really a brief period of alt-rock supremacy. Probably about 5 years at most.

The next year, 1998 would bring us Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.... As great as it was/is it brought on many imitators and the pussyfication of indie rock... IMO, of course

shite, I was thinking of the EP collection and demo collection. I was certain it was released in late 1997, but in the states 1998.
Oh well. Still one of my favorite albums ever.

Got to see these guys live in Baton Rouge just a few years ago. Some of the most down to earth guys and very funny. They were an awesome live band!
They had a drummer touring with them that used to play in the punk band monotonix. He was incredible.

Sex and Candy or whatever the title was, was as hot as song as I can remember growing up.
Still gets plenty of play today. I also remember a specific female I dated that loved that album and I bought it as an Xmas gift to her.
