I'm really not a fan of the boss. I realize that's unamerican and all, but the majority of his music, that I'm familiar with, is so polluted with saxophones, keyboards and other shite that it gets in the way.
BUT his stripped down dark gorgeous album Nebraska is one of my all time favorites. I'm wondering if any others, more familiar with his work, can point me in the direction of another album of his with a similar feeling? Or is this the only one?
Also, what is your favorite Nebraska song?
Mine are:
Nebraska
Highway Patrolman

Fantastic album and I love every song on it. I think My Father's House is underrated. None of his other albums sound like this. "Ghost of Tom Joad" has a few songs that are ok, you might want to check that out. Also try to find "How Nebraska was Born". It's a bootleg that has some other acoustic songs of his that are pretty good.

Nebraska is widely pointed to as the one Bruce album that people who aren't fans do most enjoy. Not sure bruce has another album quite like it.
Ghost of Tom Joad, the combination of Lucky Town and Human Touch (which were released on the same day), and perhaps Darkness on the Edge of Town could meet some of your requirements. But not as well as Nebraska.

Thanks for the info. It really is an awesome album and unlike the rest of his stuff I've heard. Ill be sure to check out the other recommendations.

Nebraska is up there in the all time greats list. My favorites change depending on what mood I'm in.
