Wondering what is involved in actually booking bands to a place like grant street in lafayette of something similar. Is there a minimum guarantee involved for the band? Is a promoter involved to put up the guarantee for bands? Just curious as to the process.

The reason for the inquiry is a band called Bishop Gunn originally from Natchez. Been following them for a year or so and they seem to have been on a steady rise. Released Cd in May, opened for Marcus King on a national tour. They've been hitting pretty popular venues across the US and a couple of days ago they announced plans to open for Slash's side project with Myles Kennedy in Europe.

TIA

This just means they have a well connected agent or manager.

Yeah I guess that's part of the equation but they've got to have some substance... And yes they are very talented. Just curious what it takes to get them booked locally in Lafayette or BR.

Some clubs do their own booking, some use agents

Depending on the artist's status or draw, they could get a minimum guarantee plus or versus the door or percentage of the door or any of those things by themselves

If there's a booking agent involved, he'll take a percentage from either the band or the club, depending on the arrangement

Sounds like these guys have management/booking representation built in

Depends on the band as to whether or not you put some money down up front.

First thing to do would be to contact their booking agent.

Some bands will want a straight up guarantee, others my want a percentage of the door money, and then some will want a guarantee plus percentage of door.

If you book them through their agent prepare to sign a contract, and there is usually a good bit of "perks" that the band requests, such as batteries, food (be prepared to meet their dietary needs), lodging, socks, alcohol....just because it's on the rider doesn't mean the band will ask for it though. You'll have their contact info, so it's a good idea to call them a day or so before the show to find out what they need.

Also make sure the venue meets their sound requirements. Most smaller bands don't travel with a sound crew, so you'll need to make sure the venue provides a good sound guy, with the right gear.

9 volt for active guitars, basses and pedals. AA for wireless guitar rigs and/or wireless mics.

I carry a shitton of different batteries to gigs. I also carry guitar strings because if my guitarists break a string they rarely have backups.

Juice Terry, do you book bands anymore? or were you in a band that had representation?

Asking for a friend.

Are you the booking agent or are you the ADULT of the group who plays bass (probably) and has a real job so you can take care of the youngsters?
