For some reason the other day I started to listen to some BOC and it hit me that wow this band is totally off many people radar. Sure everyone remembers Don't Fear the Reaper because of SNL but damn they had a great sound and songs. I am thinking of songs like E.T.I., Astronomy and Veteran of the Psychic Wars. Just a great band.

E.T.I.

Astronomy

Veteran of the Psychic Wars

Agree. Saw them in 1979 in Gainesville. Remember the drummer opening the song "Godzilla" wearing a Godzilla mask. Still listen to them frequently

Great live act - in the 1980s they had a giant Godzilla head as part of the act. They would also ride a Harley onstage - really engaged group and seemed like a good bunch of guys.

The LOVE the SNL sketch, BTW. They enjoy, in particular, how the sketch captured their look from the Reaper era.

I've seen them 6 times. Buck Dharma is one of the best ever.

I must have listened to Extraterrestrial Live about a thousand times as a kid.

Their logo found its way onto many schoolbooks and desks.

Saw them in 80’s opening for Ozzy, they were way better.

One of my very favorite bands. They were never afraid of going overboard, and seeming a bit on the psychotic side, truly mystical.
Music in general needs more of that.

I had never heard that until, late 70s first time being away from my parents much, when I went into The Army.
I had heard, Don't Fear The Reaper, Inna Godda Divida (oops, that wasn't them) Burnin For You,etc... but never Godzilla. It fast became one of my favorite running/PT songs. Still love it.

Extremely underrated. Huge catalogue and it's varied as hell.

Then came the last days of may

Fire of unknown origin

Harvest Moon

Fireworks

Just some to highlight the versatility and different sounds

Astronomy is their magnum opus imo.

They had a creative relationship with British scifi/fantasty author, Michael Moorcock - the creator of Elric and other incarnations of the Eternal Champion. Veteran of the Psychic Wars (co-written by Bloom and Moorcock) is broadly about the Eternal Champion and the spiritual exhaustion felt after infinite struggles.

Black Blade - specifically written about Elric (from Elric's POV) was also co-written by Bloom and Moorcock.

Murdock penned the lyrics for The Great Sun Jester a fantastic, trippy song

Other themes they got into were vampires
I Love The Night

And Aliens

Take Me Away

Yet it wasn't really a true BOC song. Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma had no involvement in writing that album. I love the album, though.
