How bout you listen to some of their good songs instead of judging by the songs on a station that plays Black Sabbath?
Please try out the first three records and then see what you think. If you don't like it, you don't like it. And if you ever mention them in the same sentence as nickelback, I will hunt you down. But seriously, they have gotten so popular with the main stream kids because of their last two albums, their worst two imo, and the opinion of most of their fans that have been listening for a long time.

the early raw-blues stuff is amazing. Their new pop direction isn't on the same level but still good.

I don't think they went into a "pop" direction..

I like Dangermouse, but I think he dropped the ball on Attack and Release. He cleaned up and polished the sound, and what made the band great was how rough and tumble they sounded. Aside from Psychotic Girl, I think the whole album is just trying to force a round peg into a square hole.
But it made their return to form, Brothers, that much more effective. Black Keys are at their best when they sound like two guys recording on a 1985 audio cassette recorder.
