Better version of Planet Caravan?

I love both and it is hard to choose but Pantera gets a slight edge. (I was 3 when Paranoid came out so I did not hear it first until I was 15.)

I'll give the edge to Black Sabbath. I like the sound of their vocals better.
And for me to find a cover better than the original, it usually has to bring something new to it or provide a different take on the song. I don't get that with the Pantera version. Just sounds like a modernized version of Sabbath's. Not bad by any means, but not worthy to dethrone Sabbath's version.

I think it's one of the most innovative and experimental pieces of music ever recorded by Black Sabbath.
It's absolutely amazing how distinct of a track it is when compared with the other material on Paranoid.
I will say that Pantera is one of the only bands that has managed to successfully cover Black Sabbath. Phil at his prime was one of the more dynamic vocalists in metal.
Listen to the Nativity in Black tribute albums from the mid-90s and see how many subpar contributions were made for that album.

Type O-Negative's version of "Black Sabbath" is nothing short of astounding and I personally enjoy Sepultura's more thrash-oriented cover of "Symptom of the Universe". Yeah, Max's vocals don't fit the song that well, but the guitars are on point for a track that essentially created the thrash sound.

I'm pretty much here with this - and I didn't listen to the song much as a kid - I discovered it as an adult. Pantera does a faithful cover, but does not eclipse Sabbath in this case.
