"Dixie," also known as "Dixie's Land," "I Wish I Was in Dixie," and other titles, is one of the most distinctively American musical products of the 19th century"

I really love this tune so much. Here are a few cool versions I found.

Oldest recorded version I could find, 1916.

Mickey Newberry's trilogy is good also. Elvis borrowed it.

FTFY

Elvis' version is arguably the greatest song in American history. IF the national anthem were changed from the Star Spangled Banner (which I do not support), the only 2 serious contenders would be Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful" and Elvis' version of American Trilogy. There is not even a legitimate third candidate.

Not arguing quality of performance.
Newberry's version was first chronologically.

Completely agree. This is THE definitive American song. I played it at my father's funeral.

The version from "the King" is the definitive version of "American Trilogy."

There is another version I stumbled upon a few years ago by Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers that is pretty good as well. While not as elaborately produced as Elvis' version, the harmonies are very good.

Nice. She got the lyrics wrong on one verse (she winces when she realizes) but that is pretty cool. I had never seen that. Thanks for sharing.
