Seeing Mayer and GCjr this friday, two of the best I've ever seen live, and two of my favorites. Anders Osbourne plays right before GC then Mayer right after. Yea, I'd call that a great day.

Saw him here in Nashville back in October when he was touring his solo album. Met him after the show, dude is genuinely one of the coolest most down to earth people you will ever meet.

Nels Cline. If you've seen Wilco live, you'll understand why he's the one.

I'm going to add Oz Noy to the list in hope that someone else has even heard the guy. If you dig "guitarist" music and you have not checked Oz Noy out then geaux do it.

Nic Valensi - The Strokes
Alex Turner - Arctic Monkeys

I think shredders are overated and a little annoying. I like guitarist that play to enhance the song, not just show off how fast and loud they can play.

I was sort of kidding about Anders, but Jr. and Mayer should be really good. Anders is good but the love he gets around New Orleans is a little over the top. And Mayer has some weak pop shite, but I hear he kills it live.

Paisley is awesome, foo!

John Mayer and Derek Trucks are definitely legendary in different genres. Maybe even good enough to be session musicians in Nashville.

Think about it...

I've heard some of what my Dad listens to as far as Paisley goes. Wasn't blown away but I wasn't really listening either. Post some good links and I'll give him a shot.

The only non rock / blues and the like kind of guitarist I have ever been really impressed by was James Taylor

That's awesome. Tremonti's work with Alter Bridge is what got me into playing guitar, so he's been my favorite guitarist for a long time. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see him live yet. (I saw Creed once when I was a very little kid but that doesn't count and I can't even remember it ) I'm hoping to catch his solo stuff live but I'd also like to see Alter Bridge whenever they get back together.
