Best American band this millennium?

TV on the Radio would be up there for me.
Animal Collective, The National and Titus Andronicus would probably be my top 3 though. This is based more on personal favorites than objective “best” bands.

TV on the Radio has been pretty boring since the greatness that was Return to Cookie Mountain.
I don't really have an answer though. I guess I'd nominate LCD Soundsystem, Animal Collective, maybe My Morning Jacket?

Yes. I was going to nominate Wolf Parade until I remembered they, too, are from Canada.
Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner have an impressive body of work between the two of them.

I would have to add that Vampire Weekend have probably put out 3 of the "best" albums of the millennium. They're completely overplayed and annoying now, but damn if I didn't play the crap out of those albums.
Band of Horses started strong, but they kind of crashed.
Wilco put out their most important work in 2002, but not sure I'd call them a band from this millennium.
Dirty Projectors were pretty important, even though I find half their shite unlistenable.

Krug may be my favorite songwriter of the millennium. Both Apologies to the Queen Mary (Wolf Parade) and Dragonslayer (Sunset Rubdown) would be in my top 10 of the millennium. But yeah, he is Canadian.

I liked the first album when it debuted. Everything since has been boring and repetitive.

My family has gotten a ton of mileage out of all of the VW albums
It may be because it fits into that uncommon niche of music that all of us enjoy (wife with picky tastes, 6 and 9 year old sons, and a father (me) who tries to bombard them all with way more music than they can handle), but VW has kind of been the soundtrack to our family over the last 9 years.
