Always been a fan of Brian Wilson and his abilities. I was recently turned onto Smile which was to be the follow up album to Pet Sounds.

If he could have gotten this out in 1967 or even 1968 it would have been a game changer in the history of music. Wilson alone made Lennon and Mc Cartney look merely average in comparison.

I love that album, but I don't think it had any singles to speak of unless you count Good Vibrations which was already released. I just don't think it was going to be very popular if it had been released.

It was a little out there, but so was Sgt Pepper at the time. I don't agree that it would not be accepted.

Wilson was doing some really cool stuff for the time especially with arrangements and different instruments

I've never really given Smile a listen. I enjoy Smiley Smile for what it is, but Smile is pretty damn trippy. I need to give it a few listens. It's crazy that they just ditched the album almost altogether.

I find it interesting that Beach Boys, like the Beatles, sort of have two eras. You have the pop side and then the experimental rock side.

Brian Wilson was a perfectionist in the studio, sadly I think it all caught up with him and he had a breakdown...
