I haven't heard that YoLaTango yet, but I do have a couple of their more recent releases.
This is a pretty interesting band/group/ team with a unique sound that is fairly laid back.

Marco my man,
Went to spin a new record last night when I was greeted with a terrible noise out of my right channel. A sort of scratchy fuzzy sound. I have an old pioneer sx-550.
I then attempted the following to locate the problem:
- switched to all the different sound stages (am,fm,aux) they all worked perfectly fine
- I plugged in an old cheap turntable and same right channel disturbance (rules out my dual tt)
- I then switched the speakers and the disturbance remained in the right channel
Result, I believe this would suggest the issue is with the phono stage on my sx-550
So I'm wondering what steps I might take to fix this issue? Keep in mind I really don't know much about fixing vintage electronics so feel free to explain it as though I'm retarded. I paid very little for the unit, but I've enjoyed it, and up until now it's worked and sounded great.
And while I have you, I'm also wondering what other vintage stereos you might suggest to pair with my dual 1229 tt. I currently just have Cambridge audio s30 bookshelf speakers which work for my current living situation, but I'm planning on larger speakers in the future when I have more room. Also wondering about possible cartridge recommendations for the dual? Currently have an Audio Technica m12e. Thanks for your time.

They are great. This album is super laid back but it is a very enjoyable listen. Perfect for sipping a good beer after a long days work. Their takes on I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Friday I'm in Love are exceptional. Some other great covers too.

Probably. I'd start by cleaning the contacts on your input selector with some Deoxit, but that probably isn't it since you have no issues with the other inputs. It'd be good to rule that out nonetheless. You could have some bad caps that need to be replaced (is everything original under the hood?). You can open it up and look and see if you notice any caps on the preamp that are leaking / bulging.

Yeah, everything is original. Good suggestion with the deoxit. Needs to be done anyway. Will check under the hood this evening.

Gettin' a couple in...
Roberta Flack "Killing Me Softly", 1973 Atlantic Records.
Talk about voice of an angel, this lady's vocals are mesmerizing. If the title track don't move you, I don't know what would.

Yeah, you are lucky to not have major issues with a 30-40 year old receiver. Amazing enough, many are still ticking with original parts, but likely not at full potential. I have a marantz 1060 that is all original, still sounds amazing, but I'm sure a recap could improve it.
Give all the contacts a good cleaning with deoxit. Don't forget the input jacks in the back. Get some canned air and spray out all the dust while you are at it.
Good luck! Marco will be here shortly to give his input I'm sure.

Just got the turntable set up. Spinning a brand new copy of My Morning Jacket "The Waterfall"
Great sounding record. Would highly recommend.

That is a good album.
For the noobs here, what was the first song you listened to on your new turntable?
Mine was "Glad" by Traffic

Very fun music written and produced by the great Harry Nilsson (Schmilsson). This might qualify as show tunes. I swear I like girls

Because it's too damn cold and windy to be at a parade tonight...
Stone Temple Pilots "Tiny Music...Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop" re-issue on light blue marbled vinyl. I wasn't too crazy about this album when it came out bc it was so different from what they had done prior. Over the years I've learned to appreciate it for what it is, which is a great artistic record made by a band not afraid to step out of their lane.

Did you just swap the tables or did you swap the cables too? Sometimes cables go bad. Try another set of cables and report back.
It wouldn't be a capacitor if it sounds fine on another source, such as AUX.
Are you sure the table is properly grounded?
Whenever you plug or unplug RCA cables on any piece of gear, always turn it off first. These cables carry voltages, and you can actually send a voltage spike when they are "live".
As far as looking for a vintage receiver, I will say what I have said a few times in this thread--I don't recommend vintage for noobies for the very reason you are experiencing now. There are just too many variables and things that can go wrong with a 40 year old piece of gear. You have to know a little bit about electronics to begin to troubleshoot under the hood.
Now if you are an experienced gear head, well that is a different story.
I will direct vintage referrals to SUB.

Yeah, I swapped out both the tables and RCA cables. Created the same noise in the right channel.
However, two days after I first noticed all of this I turned everything back on and went to play a record...and perfection...it sounded just as it always had. No noise or loss of power in the right channel. I still hadn't cleaned out the pots or anything yet either. Bizarre.
