Listened to the original a couple weeks ago, and just now spinning this 2013 mix. Sounds solid.

2007 Reissue, haven’t listened to this album in ages.

Quick question for Marco and others:

I’m relatively new into vinyl, and have been working out all the kinks. I love it after 6 months.

This is my current speaker setup, which I am extremely happy with for the price I paid.

My uncle recently gave me these speaker stands. I was thinking I could attach a plywood platform to it and throw on my foam isolation bases.

Here are the stands:

It is worth noting they are not as tall as I would like.

Do y’all think the stands will make much of a difference or is it not worth it?

ETA: I’ve spent too much money on vinyl related ventures in the last few months. I am not interested in buying speaker stands right now. I just want to know if these would be better than my current setup.

Dire Straits- Dire Straits (1978)

Audiophile Version, straight from the master recording on the analog tapes.

Please excuse the Garfield book I got for my 12th birthday. I have problems not throwing things away.

You want the speaker tweeters to be approximately at your ear level when you are in your main listening position. The tables look solid and probably won't lead to vibrations, especially with the foam between the speaker and the table top. You could build a platform and mount that and your foam on the stands and then place the speakers on top, but would that be near the correct height? Manly you want a stable, vibration free stand at the correct height.

Right now my current setup has the speakers a little shorter than I like.

I could build a platform like you said, I’m just wondering if the difference will be worth the effort.

I don't know that the difference would be that noticeable, but speaker placement does make a difference. Another option would be to have the platform slightly angled to aim the speakers upward. I've seen stands from several speakers built that way. You could test that with your current setup by cutting a wedge from the foam.

Good...speaker stands won’t really make a difference...however, if you can slow the record purchase pace a bit, save a few bucks and attain a larger pair of speakers with a capable integrated amp to drive them, every one of your records will be like listening to them for the first time again.

How old a fella are you? I ask because if you are a high school kid, I can suggest something different than if you were a college/early 20’s person. If you are 40+ years of age and are liking the whole record thing as you stated, then I will suggest something different than the other two.

I take age into consideration when suggesting gear or enhancements as I am aware that a high school kid doesn’t have a collection spare c-notes lying around, and while a college/20’s aged person probably has not reached Bill Gates status just yet, they may have and be willing to throw a few hundo at something if they are really into it. At 40+, if a person doesn’t have a few hundred to throw at something they are really interested in, then I will suggest something different as well (an appointment with a financial advisor).

Glad you are enjoying listening to music on a time tested format.

How is that AIC LP? Good? Great? Just OK? (Quality of pressing, not music)

I stopped buying Music on Vinyl LPs after I had 2 really bad ones...and I don’t mean audiophile crap like “the textures and overtones weren’t as vibrant and buttery as the Sheffield Lab pressings”....these were downright screechy, full of static, and unplayable.

It is good, not great imo. The vinyl itself is dead silent. It suffers from play time(almost 60 mins) Would really love, and it really deserves, an Analogue Productions 2LP treatment.

Also, I'm pretty sure it was never originally pressed on Vinyl in the US, so considering the price it's really not a bad buy for any AIC fan that wants it in their collection. It's the only option out there other than the foreign first presses, which I'm sure are pricey as hell if you can find them.

Have you heard of the UK reissue label The Electric Recording Company? I’d never even heard of them until just a few weeks ago. Apparently they do extremely limited runs, around 300, and sell for around £300. They all sell out very quickly, and most of them skyrocket in value on Discogs.

I can’t justify spending that much on a record to listen to on my setup, but I’d be curious to know if they were worth the cost when listening on a high end setup.
