If you go with the Lehmann Black Cube, you will need to set it for the Ortofon cartridge.

There are 8 DIP switches on the underside of the black box, each one can be set to ON or OFF. The different combinations yield 7 different resistive settings (50 ohms to 1000 ohms) (aka "loading") for an MC (Moving Coil) cartridge and one setting for capacitance loading for an MM (Moving Magnet) cartridge.
You want the one for MM (47,000 ohms--also known as "wide open").

Moving Coil cartridges usually start at around $500 and can go as high as $20k.

Look on music direct for the cables right now. How many feet of cable do you need for your speakers?

They have some good deals on audioquest in the closeout section. You need spades that are NOT bi-wire for the vandys and spades and or bananas for the quad. I have spades on both ends.
Also, audioavisor is a good site for cables as well. They will make them up for you, but you would more thank likely have to go kimber cable on that site to keep the cost not too crazy.

Get the stands as well for the vandys. Both the speakers and the stands come with in depth instructions on how to set up the speakers.

That's weird.... tried looking them up myself and don't see them. Give music direct a call and ask to speak to Roger. Nice guy, knows his shite. Tell him you just placed an order but need the stands and don't see them online (it says to call for the stands st the bottom of the page). If he isn't there then just talk to anyone else they can help as well. They are like $119 if I remember correctly.
I got mine from them.... actually got speakers, stands, cables and the quad from them. If you live in BR tell Roger that when you speak to him. Dude has an affinity for south Louisiana.

You will need to get sand to fill the stands. Also, they sit on spikes, so if you have them on wood floors you will need something for them to sit on. Like this...
Disc
I grabbed some brass ones from audioadvisor and have furniture slider pads on the bottom so I can move them on the hardwood.

No prob! Marco is the genius behind it all! just trying to pay it forward so to speak.

You'll enjoy them. shite man... you can go to Best Buy and spend more than that on towers that can't even be mentioned in the same breath. I researched my arse off. Took me 6mths to pull the trigger and it was well worth it. Problem is this shite is a damn rabbit hole....
Always looking at possible upgrades and other stuff to make it sound better. My next purchase is going to be a power conditioner. More than likely the furman that Marco suggested in a post just above these.

I think I said this earlier, but get an optical cable too. Hook your tv up to the quad and they function as a pretty good 2.0 surround system. Technically not surround i know, but I promise you can hear details out of these speakers that you can't on a regular surround system.

Marco, in the case of stabilizing weights. Are these things all created equally or is there an advantage to getting a particular model?

Also, besides my Denon, I have a Music Hall 2.2, is the acrylic platter going to be a noticeable upgrade?

You'll need interconnects (analog) and a set of speaker cables. That's all you need to get started. Just get some decent cables. That shite gets expensive with the quickness, especially if you were like me and needed 10ft of cable. I have audioquest King Cobra interconnects and Rocket 33 cables (not bi-wired) with spade connectors on both ends. Remember it has to be Spade connecters that are not bi-wired for the 1Ci. I think all the rest of the vandys are bi-wired. I had an issue with that in the beginning.

The USB and optical cables are extra if you want your TV to play through the speakers (optical) and the USB to utilize your computer through the amp which has a DAC.

Also, remember sand for your speaker bases and like I said those basis have spikes. If you are going to have them on a wooden floor your will need to get some sonic saucers or something of the sort or your wood will have holes in it. The speakers are heavy enough, not counting the sand filled bases.

Other info: The Bluetooth on the quad works well and sounds great compared to most Bluetooth connections due to the AptX component in it. If your amp is in an "enclosed" entertainment center type deal it will work, but not as far as it does sitting in the open. It comes with an antenna to help. The Vandys take 50hrs of break in time, which isn't accelerated by how loud you play them.

Like Marco told me.... don't be afraid to turn the knob to the right!

I would imagine you need 4 for each speaker if going on wood or tile floor. Audio advisor has them...like $29 for 4...you can probably ask them for 20% off and they will do it.

Sonic Saucer

Or try VTI

I have the sonic saucers... I picked up some sliders from lowes for the bottom. I didn't like the way the straight sliders that had the adhesive on the back worked. Found some that are little rubber cups. Kind of look like a mushroom cap turned upside down. Nothing and I mean nothing you can try will stop those spikes from going through them. Sonic saucers with those sliders and it work fine on wood floors.

The main difference with center weights is as they get more expensive, they usually get heavier and more precisely machined for balance.

But, putting a $700, 5 lb. weight on a Pro-Ject won't be better, but in fact, worse, because the bearing in a lesser priced table is not designed to have an additional 5-10 pounds pushing down on it. When you start to get into $5k+ 'tables, that changes. The bearings are ultra hard and machined to über tolerences and can easily handle the extra weight presented by a very heavy center weight.

I really like the Clearaudio clamp...it sits on the spindle --you push it down on the center of the LP then screw the knob to lock it in place...it applies pressure against the center spindle while keeping the downward pressure on the bearing to a minimum.

The Debut Carbon should come set up from the factory ready to go.

Also, you will need to ground the turntable. Just use any old wire and wrap it around the ground pin just below the RCA connectors on the back of the table. You can ground it to the ground in the wall outlet if you have any handyman skills. The QUAD integrated may or may not have a grounding post...if it does, connect it to that.

If you are near Metairie, BestBuy has a Magnolia section and carries AudioQuest...they will price match the deals on Musiczdirect.

Also look into Pangea cables at AudioAdvisor--they are rebranded AQ.
