So I was at my audiophile friend's camera shop in Metairie last week (Lakeside Camera), and picked up a set of cool LED lights intended for clipping on to a static camera stand. They have 2 6" long snake arms that terminate in a bright white LED light.
I placed it behind the platter and here is the effect...
If I place a translucent colored album on the platter, it glows that color! (I'll try to post a pic of one tonight).
Looks pretty neat at night!!

Sweet...
Hey Marco... does music direct do any kind of Black Friday stuff? Need to order the speakers and wanted to check before I ordered them. Figured it would be a little harder to score something off of them since I'm basically ordering just speakers and some accessories. I did grab the quad from them earlier though...
Asking cause the wife's eyes kinda crossed when she saw the price of the vandersteens
Good thing she didn't see the TT and amp cost....

I am sure they do Black Friday sales, but not sure about the Vandy's though. Most of their really popular entry level stuff is already lower than most any other outlet, so you probably won't see any incredible deals on that either. It's not like they are going to lower a ProJect table from $400 to $250 just for BF--they will lose money.
You will probably see deals on gear that has not been moving--not that it is crappy gear, but sometimes a piece of gear just doesn't sell--audiophiles are a persnickety group!
For example--Musical Fidelity made an amp that was a smaller "half-chassis" size and used class "D" power. It was a fairly decent amp, but it looked small in a rack and hardened audiophiles still aren't sold on Class "D" power (unless it comes from one of the Big Boys--and those are very expensive--5 figures). The amp retailed at $2000 and was selling a couple years later new for $600...again, not a bad amp, just didn't sell.
These are the type of things you will probably see.
As far as Vandersteen, well, they don't need to discount it to sell them--they sell just fine on their own at the set price. Why? Because it is a Vandersteen.
Same with McIntosh. You will NEVER see McIntosh "on sale"...all prices quoted by any outlet or store will always be retail--it doesn't need to be discounted--McIntosh will sell just fine without a sale. Now, that is not to say that your local dealer that you have a buying relationship with won't discount McIntosh gear 10-20% for you, but it is done quietly and not reflected on the invoice (many high end audio manufacturers don't like dealers discounting their brand as it sometimes leads to a "cheapening" of their brand--think Jos.A Bank clothing here--their suits are OK for the money, but the constant "Buy one, get 4 free" has really hurt their image).
Just pull the trigger--your wife will get over it. Otherwise, you will constantly think what your rig "could have been". Buy an LP or two of someone she really digs and play it on the rig the first couple days after you get it set up and show her just how good her favorite band can sound!

The reissues of "Tusk" and "Rumors" are really good, as is Stevie Nick's "Belladonna"

Oh and for the record I'm getting the vandersteens
The wife just wanted to get them for me for my 40th here in a few weeks. Kinda of why there was some sticker shock and I'm adding a couple things to it
Thanks for the recs as well!

If you haven't ordered yet, I will be happy to call Roger at Music Direct and ask him to extend my 20% off to you (I get that discount across the board as I order thousands worth of stuff annually from him, not to mention bring him new clients).
I did this for a friend of mine in BR last year that ordered a Peachtree integrated, ProJect Debut, Focal Aria's, and an Ortofon 2M Black--it save him about $1300.
Let me know if you are interested and I will give you my info to hit me offline...

shite Marco, id be an idiot if I didn't take that offer would save me $250 on the speakers alone...
I already ordered the vena through them and found the Nomad with another company.
I need to get the vandersteens, speaker stands, interconnects (nordost), vibrapods, center weight and a brush... may grab a little vinyl as well. I'd get the speaker wires through them as well, but i haven't been able to see any with spade connectors that aren't off the charts for me price wise. Of course, I am prolly just not looking correctly. I'll prolly just get them from audiosdvisor.
Everything I've read seems to suggest to get the speaker stands for the vandersteens. What's your feeling on that?
Just let me know how you want me to get in contact with you. And again... appreciate all of your help through this!

Now on...
Palms self titled debut, 2013
A side project of Deftones front man Chino Moreno, these tunes are somewhat dark and cinematic. This sounds great on vinyl with all the layers and textures.
