Are Bose headphones worth it?

they are comfy, but are they worth $300?

I have the quiet comfort and think they’re totally worth the $350. Then again I use mine pretty much everyday since last Christmas and have no issues with them. Noise cancelling is for real, if that helps.

Got some for my birthday. Have enjoyed them very much. Noise cancellation is great, especially on flights

I have the Bose QCII and have a pair of AT M70x. The Audio Technicas are much cheaper and have found them to be a MUCH better pair then the Bose.
The Noise Cancelation feature is misleading. It will not block out voices or sharp sounds, but mostly ambient noises like a train or plane. And not completely. Whne listening to music with QC on high, I find the sound muffled.
Each have their own strengths but if looking for pure sound quality, you can do better than Bose for cheaper

I wouldn't buy Bose purely for sound quality, but if you want them for noise cancellation, those and the Sonys are pretty much what everyone will recommend.

I got a pair of QC35 II for Christmas. The noise canceling is great, but for music they are disappointing.

I would rather a comparable Sennheiser product.

I second this, for listening to music in your home there are better headphones available for $300.00, Grado would be one brand that fits this description. But for active noise reduction the Bose headphones are worth it, I won't fly without mine.

You're talking the QC35 with ANC?
The only real competitor is the Sony which usually runs a little more. If you want Bluetooth cans with ANC, then those are your two choices and $300 to $350 is your budget.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed with that. But that said I still really like my Bose 35's and won't fly without them. And I use them around the house and in the yard a lot too.
But if you are on a tight budget there are decent options that are much cheaper. And my Bose did develop a problem of randomly turning themselves on which would drain them for when I needed them. It's a fairly common problem with Bose. Bose did replace them; but with a 2 week wait.

Sennheiser
They have been making speakers for 75 years, and do little advertising. They make speakers from $25 to 25k
you can get pro gear for $300

won a pair of Bose QC 35's in a sales contest. Wouldn't have paid $350 for them, but they are really nice. i wear them around the house and on the few flights i have taken

It is part of the reason why I prefer the Sony's. You put them on and then hit a button that will adjust the noise cancelling to the surroundings. Also, if someone comes up to you and starts talking all you have to do is put your hand over the right ear cup and it turns off the noise cancelling and turns on 2 microphones so you can hear what the person is saying.
For the same price as the Bose, you get more features and the noise cancelling works better. I own both and very rarely ever use the Bose QC35's anymore.

I have the MDR-1000X, and I can almost love them except for their inability to manage multiple Bluetooth devices without constantly repairing, which the Bose do with aplomb. Sony didn't bother to address this shortcoming in the current iteration.

Had a $100 set of Sennheiser earbuds, easily the best sounding personal earphones I've ever used. Til the goddamn dog chewed them.

They sound good to me and I can listen to them late at night in bed and not bother the wife. The first pair I had (QF 2) broke after 5 years and bose sent me a brand new pair of the QF 15s for a $100 bucks.
BTW - the greatest value is when you sit next to the 'talker' on the plane. You put them over your ears, they shut up and you relax.

I don't have the sonys and don't doubt they're great phones, but this is more annoying than people think
I have the QC35s, and you're right, they handle this with ease. I also have B&O E8s (wireless buds) and they have to be constantly reconnected to different devices. I like them both, but the convenience of the Bose really shows up over time.

It's a huge PITA. I use my Sonys with two devices hooked up to my AVR. To re-pair, I have to press a physical button for one device, and it's physically awkward to get to it, and the BT pairing on my Apple TV is buried deep in the settings app, which makes it awkward to get to with the remote. No way I could be re-pairing these things all the time, so I bought a TROND receiver to keep permanently paired with the Apple TV. I attach it to the headphones with velcro, and with the special 1' cable I bought, it bundles up nicely and works great. Thing is, $400 headphones shouldn't have such limitations. Oh, and while the Sonys use a 3.5 mm jack, it's ever so slightly non-standard in that regular cables don't quite fit due to the little ring at the base of the plug being too wide. You have to buy one like this:
