This week marks the anniversary of a very important event in music history. It is the day that marks the beginning of the end for mainstream music. A boy band by the name of Hanson released a song that brought girls to tears and old school music fans to suicide.

Mmm Bop is a great song. Yeah, I said it. And unlike their contemporaries, Hanson is an actual functioning band with people who write their own songs and play their own music. They have almost nothing in common with the boy bands which came after.
Seriously, screw the haters. That is a great damn pop song and most acts wish they could write something so catchy and fun.

I am friends with people who are in bands who write their own stuff. Doesn't mean it's any good.

Good for you. I'm willing to bet they haven't written a pop song as great as Mmm Bop. There'a reason it became really popular -- it's really catchy. It's great bubblegum pop... and honestly, there aren't enough good pop bands anymore.

To someone it is.

Way better than anything I have ever heard on Hits 1.

Sometimes I feel the same way. We used to make fun of a lot of pop bands in the 90's but they at least made some catchy songs. I just have no reaction to the great majority of today's popular music.
Then again, maybe the generation before me reacted the same way to the music in the 90's.

It's also way different. Mmm Bop would not have been out of place on the radio in 1975. It's completely out of place now. The over-produced pop groups of today Autotuning over canned music have almost nothing in common with Hanson.

I completely agree with you, Baloo.
