For the record, I grew up in the church, and I'm not trying to make fun of Christians(I am one), but I really wonder if God even likes it.

The facial expressions really make that video.

Especially by the gentleman doing the Lurch impression.

Coming from an agnostic viewpoint: Like any other genre, most of it's schlock, some of it's decent, and a tiny sliver of it is transcendental.

Duane Allman learned to play slide by attempting to mimic the sounds that black female gospel and RnB singers voiced.....

So it can't be ALL BAD

I would imagine that Middle Eastern Gospel is quite unlistenable.

Ok, if you're gonna post Carmen we're gonna need a separate thread for awesome music by robust Italian men in combat boots.

The Louvin Brothers -- "The Great Atomic Power"

Which I'm sure you know led to this classic:

Uncle Tupelo

And "Christian Life" led into the Byrds and Graham Parsons (who is singing lead on this version):

From Sweetheart of the Rodeo

So while I'm not a fan of Southern Gospel there is some great music based on it and as such there is far worse music out there.
