I became a fan earlier last year and recently went to his concert after he dropped his 3rd album last October. Really really good performer and also was shocked by his extremely broad demographic of his audience. One of his songs 'Let You Down' hit No. 1 on the Pop Songs Airplay Chart in March (not claiming to know what that means but its got to be good right?)
dude sounds really similar to Eminem (kind of looks like him too) but just has great songs/lyrics. he's labeled as a christian rapper but really challenges my traditional idea of what christian hip-hop artists sound like and what they sing about.
anyone familiar with him?

I've listened to his albums and liked them. I sort of rolled my eyes at the Christian rapper label before I listened, but he's legit.
I rolled my eyes because some people use Christian artist as a cover for meh musical ability. NF is a legitimately skilled rapper. I'm Catholic, but don't limit myself by that musically. With NF, Lecrae and KB, there are actually a decent number of Christian rappers who have legitimate skill right now and would be good regardless of genre.

I agree. he really is incredibly talented. I make the comparison not as a slight to Eminem but as a compliment to NF. dude not only comes up with some great beats, but his songs can be super deep and insightful.
plus anytime I see anyone that puts their heart and sole into what they enjoy, it's evident in their work.

I think everyone compares him to Eminem. From Detroit, similar vocal inflection, can rap fast, uses personal pain as subject matter...
He's better than just an Eminem imitator, though. There are lots who try to be Em, but NF's music stands up as more than just a poor man's Eminem, it's legit work without the comparison.

Is this some kind of inside slang? Say the full name of the band so we know who you're talking about

With that kind of creativity, I bet his lyrics are amazing.

He's a rapper so he's not creating anything

I mean, he's no Beatles. They took the word beetle, and subbed in an A, so it's like a musical beat.
The apex is the Be-Sharps, of course. Their emergence during the barbershop craze of the 80's gets overlooked, but they were bigger than Jesus at one point.
