Anyone here ever used a Roli Seaboard? This is seriously cool.

Yes. I’m a keys player. I tried them out at the NAMM show in L.A. I think you’ll find them more as a “sandbox instrument” than an actual practical thing. My guess is that most people who bought them in their studio stopped using them after a few weeks. I never see them in studios anymore.
They are difficult to play because of the weird arse keys. The guys who demonstrate them in the videos are mostly absolute pros capable of doing 100x what a non-keyboardist can do.
FWIW at the NAMM show, people were taking turns on it and they all sounded pretty bad. It’s cool for string sounds and very versatile and responsive, but you can do all of that with a regular MIDI controller, you just have to turn a few knobs.

It reminds me of the old saying "Never bring a keyboard to a guitar fight!!!

With the Roli there’s actually a lot of truth to this lol.
The demonstrations remind me of when I was a kid and the guy who made Yoforia Yo-Yo’s came and did a demonstration. Was able to do all these tricks that only experts can do. Turns out he was an award winning competitive yo-yo guy, and the yo-yo’s really sucked.
Guys demonstrating this thing are pros and most people can’t make it sound anything more than a weird keyboard.

Friend of mine is a pianist/keyboard player at a pretty good level. He has several electronic keyboards and a full size Yamaha grand piano. Pretty sure he has played around with the Seaboard. His current fascination is the Haken Continuum which is fairly similar but maybe even more open ended.

This thing is actually really friggin cool and I haven’t heard of one. Thanks for posting.
The brilliant part is as a keys player, I’d be curious to play with it because you can touch anywhere on the key and it adjusts the pitch depending on where you are on a key as opposed to being restricted to a 12 tone system. If I were to play a piano patch on this, my guess would be it would be a really unique thing that sounded super analog, raw and “natural.” It would sound subtly weird in a really cool way.
I’d buy one immediately if the price wasn’t so steep. DAMN I want one, but I can get any one of the Dave Smith synths new for that same price. Endorsement deals for keys are typically only 35% off at most, that’s if the company does it. Annoying because that looks like a REALLY cool piece of gear.
Can do all the features of the therevox (one of my coolest instruments) and about 100 more other things.
