I need a new hobby..so I was thinking about trying to play an instrument again. (played a tiny bit of trumpet in HS, quit fairly early for other reasons)

But I'm interested in an alto sax, piccolo, flute, clarinet, trumpet... I find higher pitch instruments amusing. I want something challenging but not impossible to master.

Which one of these cost the most to buy new and maintain...also the best quality brands for a beginner?

I know plenty of people who can teach you, Cotton.

I played the french horn in jr. high and I was reeeaaalllllyyyy bad at it. Who plays the french horn anyway?

Dying to learn guitar...I have tons of resources at my fingertips, I have no idea why I haven't learned yet.

I agree with the fiddle...fiddle players are easily my favorite guys to watch during a show, and the ladies love them.

If you're sold on a woodwind or a brass, I'd go with alto sax or trombone.

You're really trying to get me to Austin aren't you?

And there is nothing hard about learning how to strum chords and playing " campfire" guitar. You just have to do it and expect to be terrible for at least six months

Sax is tied for the sexiest instrument ever and it's tied with blues organ. Specifically Hammond b-3
