I use Earnie Ball...

My band practices at least once a week, and I’ll change them once they start getting dirty or losing tone.

I always change them before a live show.

My old band toured a good bit, and I’d change them every 3 or 4 shows...

If I’m recording I use the heaviest gauge I can stand,

I go extra light on performing.

Usually go with D'Addario EJ19's - BP light tops and medium bottoms on a cedar top acoustic.

Like changing as infrequently as possible usually every 3 months; however with playing daily (if not twice) for hand therapy they can get pretty dull despite not having string-killer hands. Coming off spaghetti wrist injury so I play religiously doc's orders.

I bought a D-28 around a year ago.It came with Medium Strings.

About a month ago I changed them and put Light Martin Authentic on it.

I prefer the Lights.

There are some Pro's on here that know what they're doing.I'm not one of them.

Have fun with your Martin.I love mine.

I like D'Addario's phosphor bronzes, especially the PBs in the "EXP" coated family

Just curious if anyone has opinion on EXP vs. 80/20? Reading some reviews of 80/20 preference but details are lacking.

On my 52 Martin D18 my usual go to is Elixir Nanoweb PB Mediums...but right behind that is D'Addario PB Mediums.
For grins and giggles I just tried these.... Ernie Ball Paradigm and so far really like them.

I have never really liked Martin strings for some reason, just my ear I guess. IMHO, each guitar has a "sounds best" brand of strings and I prefer the tone after they've been on for a couple weeks and the sparkle has worn down some.

If you are changing every 3 months, you should box them up and send them here.

EXP is a D'Addario proprietary string-life-extending coating, "80/20" is a broad industry term describing a specific bronze alloy - specifically the mix of copper, tin, zinc. 80/20 is a term used by multiple manufacturers. "Phosphor Bronze" is a different specific bronze alloy used by multiple manufacturers.

Easiest loose description I can give you ... the 80/20 alloy generally (VERY generally) is said to be tonally brighter, the phosphor bronze tonally warmer. But some people's will tell you just the opposite. Why? It's a case by case, taste by taste personal perception thing, not a right vs. wrong thing.

Try both and lean towards your preference. I prefer phosphor bronzes and it's what I put on most guitars I work on. But I stock both alloys.
