Amp problems

I finally bought tubes for my amp. I accidentally the bottom of one of my tubes, but it was plastic that covered the bottom nipple of the tube. I don’t thing it is a big deal.
The problem is that the amp has a lot of static and volume goes in and out in the clean channel. The distortion channel sounds better but you can hear the volume doing the same thing as the clear but is not as bad as the clean channel.
What could be the problem?

Is there bias adjustment on the amp or does it have auto bias? If auto bias the tubes may not be matched.
One of the four tubes in my amp went out of bias, the amp made a loud noise, faded in and out, and the tube had a meltdown. Check the tubes and make sure they are properly biased.

You need someone to bias the tubes

Backstory: this was starting to happen before my new tubes, that is why I got some new tubes. That’s the advice I got from the music board.
Update: this morning I tried my amp again, still crackling. I gave it a couple good hard strums on my guitar and the he sound came back like nothing happen.
Could it still be the bias? Bought the egnator cab and blackstar cab for 400 dollars. Instead of investing more money to get this one fixed, should I just suck it up and buy another amp head off of reverb?

Might need biasing. But it also sounds like a preamp tube issue.
You left out an important verb there. Which tube? AX7/AY7? May be your culprit.

12AX7
Looking at it, the think the plastic that broke off was just a piece to stabilized the tube once I put it in.

The plastic on the tube plays a role. I repurposed an amp last summer, built a new box, the whole 9 yards. I got it all back together, plugged in and was hit with hissing and buzzing. After careful examination I found that the smallest bit of a soldered wire was lightly touching the metal housing of the amp, so I clipped it and problem solved. I say all of that to say anything in your amp that’s touching something it’s not supposed to will cause amp issues. Your problem more than likely lies in the broken plastic or something touching something it’s not supposed to.

Try the old 12AX7 and see if there's a difference.

Just because modern tubes are brand new and appear fine doesn't mean they are, modern stuff is pretty lame quality, durability and longetivity wise. And that tube you dropped might look okay electronically but that doesn't mean it is. Roll your tubes, using old and new if need be, until you narrow down the problem glass and can purge it from the lot. That will at least eliminate or confirm the glass as the culprit(s).

I've had brand new 12AX7s fail miserably in my Boogie, mechanically operable and functional, but whistling with feedback, crackly with noise, because they couldn't keep up with high gain low noise applications. Like showing up at a drag race with a straight six. You can "race," you just ain't gonna win.
