Are there any mainstream radio stations left in America that play metal? When I say mainstream, AM/FM radio. Not SiriusXM or any streaming platforms.

Let's say Lamb of God put out a new album today. Are there any radio stations that would play it? You won't hear it in Houston. Houston radio sucks. It sucks really bad.

107.5. Classic rock. They play the same 10 songs over and over.
94.5. Alternative. Teen music. My Chemical Romance, etc...etc...

Does your cities AM/FM radio suck when it comes to metal?

Maybe if you put an extra $1 in for the disk jockey..

Classic Rock is the closest thing to “Metal” here in the Land of the CoonAss…

Honestly, I wouldn’t expect a radio station to play bands as polarizing as Lamb of God. It’s a very small audience that wouldn’t turn the dial on music that extreme. It’s a bit jarring to hear Megadeth on FM radio, and that rarely happens. Metallica’s mainstream hit singles are about as “metal” as radio gets, and I understand that. Like it or not, commercial radio is a business.

I was watching an old episode of When Metal Died or something like that when I posted this. Yeah, I should of used a more popular band than Lamb of God for my reference. They were in my head at the time.

There was a time when radio here, (101 KLOL and 97 ROCK) would play Pantera, Iron Maiden, etc...etc... When those bands were touring, they were advertised daily. Now you don't get any metal news on the radio here.

Our classic rock station is garbage. Honestly, some days I believe it's automated. No disc jockeys. Just a tape on loop. It's the same songs. Same commercials at the same time daily.

Only legacy acts like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest are played on rock radio in my area. I just browsed the latest metal releases on iTunes and saw Dee Snider, a band named “Kolostomy,” and cover art featuring a clown taking a meat cleaver to a baby. A sad state of affairs; nothing that’ll sniff the mainstream.

99.9 The Fox is a Mississippi based radio station broadcasting an album-oriented rock (AOR) music format. Licensed to Artesia, Mississippi, USA, the station serves the Columbus-Starkville-West Point area.

A mix of classic rock, 90s grunge/metal and current rock. Some current rock on the playlist Mammoth WVH, Seether, Royal Blood, Ayron Jones, Pop Evil, Greta Van Vleet, Volbeat, Shinedown, Dirty Honey, Ghost.....

I travel the country for work and I’ve found that pretty much the bigger the city, the shittier the radio. Atlanta, Indy, Orlando, and Dallas FM radio all suck royal cock as far as I found. Denver is an exception with a couple of good stations. The hands down best FM rock radio I’ve found has been in smaller cities and towns. Greenville, SC for instance had a couple of pretty good ones when I was there in 2016, as does Omaha. The absolute best FM rock station I’ve found on the road though is WWHG The Hog in tiny-arse Janesville, WI of all places. Now of course they did play some standard rock radio crap but also a really nice catalog of stuff you do not hear on FM radio for the most part. A lot of these bands you do hear on radio but rarely these particular songs. This is just a small sampling of what I heard on it:

Metallica — Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Iron Maiden — Number Of The Beast
Limp Bizkit (yeah I know but FM radio) — Faith
Accept — Balls To The Wall
Godsmack — Shine Down
Smashing Pumpkins — Rocket
Wolfmother — Woman
Judas Priest — Hellion/Electric Eye and Hot Rockin
Ted Nugent — Great White Buffalo (Live)
Clutch — Mob Goes Wild
Motorhead — Ace Of Spades
Kiss — Shock Me and Cold Gin
Megadeth — Sweating Bullets
Def Leppard — Rock Brigade

And there were absolutely some more great ones that I didn’t jot down.

This is mostly copy/paste from a reply I posted a few years back so there is a chance of course that the Hog has changes formats. I sure would hope not.
