Shakes have a few good songs. After that, they are pretty boring. Listening to TuneYards tonight. That chick has as good a voice as the shakes chick but does much more interesting music.

Be honest doc - she could've taken a dump on stage and you'd say she brought the house down with her soul, no?
It was a good performance but I've never seen you assess anything they've done as less than giving you wood. I'm guessing that the uninitiated would've probably said that she gave a really solid vocal performance, and generally everything else was just decent tonight. I know playing TV, 1 song, cold, away from the crowd, with the lights camera action nature is tough so I'm not beating anyone up. Just think they often come up a half step short of what you give them credit for. Still young and talented though (have the cd, will be seeing them yet again when they come back in a few weeks, so I'm a fan too)

Speaking of SNL... "Watch what happens when I put my finger in her ear..."

Agreed that they haven't found that next level as a group yet. Always enjoy but often find myself thinking about how they can get to that next level and fully tap the potential

I can go with that. Their album is good, but I know they have more potential for better songs.

I just think Brittany Howard has "it".

She certainly does have it.
I was talking to someone the other day and came to this conclusion on the shakes - a ton of talent on the stage but I don't think they've found that synergy where the sum is greater than their individual parts. Theres that little intangible thing thats hard to put into words but great bands have where the music can surpass the members. The shakes have flashes of that but too often are just that band with the cool voice.

I feel like they should have been given a chance to play at the Grammys.
Certainly would have been better than frank ocean

I missed a bit at the start of this one but think it did a better job of showcasing them then a lot of what I've seen on the national shows

Thought it was great they decided to play a song not recorded yet
