Have a couple of solid rosewood/spruce dreads I'm looking to restring (including my new Martin HD28 ) and wanted to get some new ideas on strings to try. I play a lot of old country and bluegrass, mostly strumming and some flat picking and cowboy chords.

A buddy of mine swears by Elixer 80/20 custom lights but everyone is sold out of them currently so looking for some other ideas.

My goto on most - nice boom while still having good top end - without killing my fingers - and without too much string tension.

D'Addario Phosphor Bronze. I like the custom light gauge 11-52. Light is 12-53. Light is their most popular gauge

If you want coated strings, get what I just described in their EXP series. Ultra thin coating, you wouldn't know if you didn't read the packaging.

However don't have string killer hands so don't need coated strings.

eta: ... might also suggest the same

old standard and ever favorite: D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze Lights ... (is there a bigger seller).
Was just suggested something a bluegrass'ers might try once.
