Have you lowered the action on your guitar? Are there any negative effects on the guitar (long term)?
I recently picked up the guitar again, after more than a decade, and am pleasantly surprised by my progress. We bought our daughter one as well. We had her action lowered. I recently discovered how much easier it is to play F, B, and other chords on hers.
Should I lower my action or just suck it up?

Have it set up properly by a luthier

Excuse my ignorance, but does "set it up properly" refer to lowering the action? And who or what is a Luthier?

You lower the action on any guitar when it is too high for comfortable playing. You'll know if you went too low by the appearance of new string buzz, fretting out when bending, etc. Getting the action right is all part of a proper setup, which should also include adjusting the neck relief as necessary.

This. And I will add it depends on your playing style. I tend to bang pretty hard as I play with electric guitar people. So too low an action and I buzz like a college boy on bourbon street.
