For those looking for some late night smooth jazz...

I have been a fan of Acoustic Alchemy for 20+ years. Their signature sound is two "dualing guitars"--one nylon stringed and one steel stringed, often playing in harmony.

From 1998--Positive Thinking album

And another from that album... LINK

Enjoy...

Eta...OOPS...wrong board...

DUDE. Glad for your wrong board post. I haven't gone over to the Music Board yet, that is awesome.

My father raised me up on acoustic alchemy.
Their best album in my Opinion is The New Edge highlighted by Sante Cafe and Arc en Ciel.

if you like this stuff, you might want to check out some of the gypsy soul stuff.

Obsession Confession is a great song from Slash.

And as far as I know, there's only one good song on the album but the song 107 degres in the shade.

Also, the jazz band Fourplay has some good stuff and good music to listen to with your SO

Yep...The New Edge is a great LP.

My favorites are "Reference Point" and "Arcanum"--both of which had founding member Nick Webb on steel guitar. He died in 1998 of pancreatic cancer.

"American English" is more of a poppy jazz sound, but they pull it off well.

This is the opening track from the 2005 album "American English"

The Crossing

It is probably in my top 20 of all time favorite tunes, and tops for Acoustic Alchemy.

When played on a revealing audio system, the bass in this tune goes DEEP...crazy low Hz. You feel this tune.

It has sort of a driving song feel to it.

I really like their "folky" side. If you can learn to like or get past the harsh vocals, the musicianship is really outstanding. Personally I think the vocals add a great contrast to the music and make it that much more intense.

something about that music, it sounds like cyanide koolaid music. other jazz and acoustic music doesn't sound that way to me, but that stuff does. not sure why.

Haha, I understand. It's not something you start out with. It's something you work up to. Was your first drink a 120 proof shot of whiskey? That's what this music is and you have to build up a tolerance for it. If the music behind the vocals was shite then I wouldn't listen to it but the whole package does something to me. The power, emotion, and musicianship has grip on me. If it's not your thing then it's not your thing. Most people who talk to me about music IRL think I only listen to classical, which I listen to as well.

Love Acoustic Alchemy, after listening to a couple their CDs I am usually ready for some Michael Hedges who also died too soon.

My favorite, have every album. Miss Nick Webb but they've continued the success and still put out great music. The first album w/o Webb, The Beautiful Game, was outstanding.

Here's a few favorites, but just too many to choose from;

Cool As A Rule

Missing Your Touch

Ariane

Break for the Border

Same Road Same Reason

and one w/o Webb;

Trailblazer

ETA; This may be my favorite;

Until Always
