Daughter wants to be in the band next year.

Wants a flute for Christmas. And lessons.

What rock bands use flutes? Jethro Tull, Marshall Tucker and _____.

Other, good songs with flutes?

TIA.

There really should be a Flute Rock compilation album.

Canned Heat could supply a track.

DMB's late horn player was pretty legit on flute. Clarinet has more ragtime, jazz, and old times stuff while flute is more classical. I personally prefer clarinet and oboe but flutists are always in high demand.

Couple things:

Flute is a basic instrument. After she masters that, she may want to branch out to other instruments like piccolo.

Wouldn't hurt to meet with the band director and try out several instruments to see what she has an aptitude and/or likes. My sister thought she wanted to play the flute and ended up playing the saxophone.

Everybody had Push Push in my college days, that was the one you always pulled of the shelf when you had a girl back in the dorm room, seems like you always had to get up to flip the LP over at the most inconvenient time.

Tim Weisberg was also pretty popular in the late 70s, early 80s

If she's going to play flute, I want to hear some of my songs.
