Just wanted to say how great they were. Of course they had greater success in the 80s but their 70s stuff was on a whole other level.

Two really great songs. Sails Of Charon might be the most underrated metal song ever. Taken By Force is a really good album and Your Light is a great song too.

Love Drive
In the late 70's we started seeing what were called "Imports". Vinyl you could hardly find in record stores. They were not radio driven albums. This was one of the 1st I was able to purchase as a teen in 1979. Love Drive welcomed the addition of Michael Schenker on lead guitar having recently splitting for UFO. enjoy.....

Yes he is. Nobody can replicate him.

Hell YES!!! Hands down their best music IMO. I was only 6 when their debut was released so I missed the Uli Jon Roth years. He is simply a genius. My first real awareness of them was Animal Magnetism. My earliest favorites of great 70’s Scorpions music would be the first two from Virgin Killer.

Catch Your Train
And of course Michael Schenker briefly as well. Maybe a change in direction but still great...
Loving You Sunday Morning
I loved them through the early 80’s as well. Kept hoping for a Baton Rouge or NOLA show but just never happened.
Then literally the very first time I ever heard Rock You Like A Hurricane my initial thought was Holy CRAP!! This sucks arse! My opinion of that song has never changed either. Then I made the mistake of purchasing World Wide Live, back when I still liked live albums. Hated that from the first listen as well. So over produced it was like a studio album with a crowd track added. Just lost a lot of my fandom of them from that point on.
Fast forward to 1991. Finally had a chance to see them, here in Jax. Although I had never regained my earlier zeal for them, and I despised Wind Of Change, I went mainly for the hope that they would play at least a couple of the oldies. Speedy’s Coming seemed to be popular on some classic rock radio around the time so I held out some hope. Well, they played one fricking song from the 70’s and not one song from before Lovedrive (they played Coast To Coast, not even Loving You Sunday Morning). It was as though they had completely turned their backs on their own great 70’s music. It was a thorough disappointment.
C’est la Vie I guess. At least we can still listen to their great 70’s stuff.
Awesome choice for a topic.

Got Taken By Force last year after seeing that. The whole album is legit.

Speaking of Virgin Killer, the original album cover was kind of controversial.

Now here’s how a live metal recording should sound. Monsters Of Rock at Castle Donnington 1980. Man I wore this entire album out back in ‘81. Played it over and over. Ha. Scorpions had these two songs on it...

They played on a bill between Def Leppard (straight off the boat) and Ted Nugent at the Riverside Centroplex in 1980. Great show, one of my first ever attended.

NICE!!!
Yeah Def Leppard with Pete Willis and Scorpions playing their good 70’s stuff. That’s a great show.
Pretty sure I’ve heard about Def Leppard opening for Nugent but I don’t remember hearing The Scorpions were part of the show as well. Had to have been incredible.
I turned 14 in 1980 and the following year is when my buddy and I started getting the freedom to catch rock/metal shows on our own.
