"Zero Hour": The serious movie that inspired the great comedy "Airplane!"

I came across this and found it interesting that the creators of Airplane! acquired the rights for 2500.00 to a 1950's movie "Zero Hour" and created this amazing comedy from such a serious film.

If you watch "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" (based on the play "Heaven Can Wait" which was remade with Warren Beatty), you'll see the main character "flying on instruments", and then Lloyd Bridges shows up as a heavenly co-pilot.
