World War II With Tom Hanks on the History channel

I watched the 1st two episodes and part of the third. I'm finding it very meh.

Things omitted:

They make it sound like Hitler jus happened upon the National Socialist German Workers' Party. He was sent there by the government to monitor and report on their activities. Then he found that he agreed with their views and whole heartedly joined the party.

The Germans original plan was basically a repeat of the von Schlieffen plan from WWI, except this time they would invaded the Dutch also and they would have armored and air forces to help secure victory. Only after a light aircraft carrying a staff officer who had a copy of their plan went down over Dutch territory did they change their plan and decided to go through the Ardennes instead.

During the part about the Battle of Britain they did not mention the British radar system, Chain Home. How can you tell the story of the Battle of Britain without mentioning their radar system? You can't.

Things they got wrong:

The shows says that on the 3rd day of Polish invasion the Germans unleashed their heavy bombers. Germany never had a heavy bomber force during WWI. They had a tactical AF consisting of one and two engine bombers, no real strategic AF.

The shows also states the Chamberlain resigned on May 10th (true) and that the King sent for Churchill to replace him. Firstly the King does not send for someone to be prime minister, the Commons send their nominee to the King for approval. The King did not want Churchill, but after his "blood toil, tears and sweat" speech the Commons overwhelmingly choose Churchill, leaving the King little choice.

Just a few of the things they could/should have done better.

Very true. Arguably the most important modern invention/use of technology in changing the tide of the European theater.

I remember when the History Channel first started people called it “The Hitler Channel” because it seemed like 90% of their programming were about the Nazis and WWII.
