People didn't throw a huge hissy fit, a vocal minority of cheap, attention whoring hipsters threw a hissy fit and NetFlix only lost about 1 out of 24 million subscribers.

People pay more for this now, it's called cable. Accessing content through something like Roku or a game console isn't all that different from the cable box. If it's a good value that uses mainstream distribution channels (internet and video game consoles) then people will buy it.

How did I know I was going to click in this and find H-Town knighting for the industry again?

I think it's still a relatively small segment of the customer base that is willing to steal.

Maybe the initial downloading/torrenting but I've seen plenty of non-tech savvy people participate by buying bootlegs instead.

Honestly I don't know anybody who hasn't torrented or "stolen" media in some shape or form at this point. It's certainly not a "relatively small" customer base.

People complained about Netflix raising prices because they were cutting their product back at the same time. It was a valid complaint.

Considering torrents aren't always reliable in terms of clarity, I don't see why people wouldn't pay more for quality. They do for virtually every other product under the sun.
