I think it was the casual fans who didn’t see it. They also thought the last Jedi was terrible.

The Star Wars nerds have been asking for a movie set in a different part of the universe with no mention of the force or Jedi or lightsabers or anything like that. Just a regular movie set in that universe. Other than a small appearance by the Empire, that's what we got. It was fun movie with enough fan service to please the hardcore fans.

We still barely know anything about Han’s family.

TLJ and personally I was never interested in a Han Solo side story to begin with.

There was going to be some hate from hardcore fans, and that was going to be expressed at the next film. Solo was that film.
It isn't an indictment of Solo, but rather of the direction of Star Wars.

I enjoyed it. The droid dying was probably the best part because she was annoying. No, Emilia Clarke was the best part. Idk. I go watch movies to turn my brain off for a little bit. Isn’t that the purpose. No need to overthink a movie.

Because its a crappy Star Wars movie

Good.
What made the first two films so good was the mystery behind them. Once Lucas started trying to explain every detail, things went to shite.

Finally got to see it tonight. Glover nailed it as Lando but Alden’s lack of a deep voice just kept distracting me.
It was fun but it felt like it went out of its way to correct the parsecs goof and explain Lando’s pronunciation of Han.

What part of "also" do you not understand? Everyone hated it. Only a hardcore fan would still go see Solo after that crap TLJ.

I actually think it's the hardcore fans that stayed home for Solo, myself included.

This is the main thing.
But also, nobody was begging for a Han Solo movie, esp one without an actor who even resembles Harrison Ford. The origins of Han Solo never crossed my mind.
Some hardcore nerds might say they want a non-Jedi movie, but those people are few and silly. It’s Jedi powers and light saber duels that people want to see.

I guess I can see why through a marketing perspective, but my big issue was the fact that I would know how it ends regardless without ever looking up a plot or seeing the thing.
There was nothing at risk. Any danger that the movie put Solo/Lando in, you know what happens and that they triumph.
It’s like watching Bama play an FCS school. You’ll watch it if it’s the only game on at 11 am, but you aren’t going to load up and go out of your way to attend the game because you already know the result.

I bet some football fans also refuse to watch their team after a bad season, but that’s a small Minority. Most hardcore fans are gonna watch anyways.

No one asked for a Solo movie, including me, but I ended up enjoying it. The SJW angle in TLJ is probably a valid reason why people skipped Solo, but I also think the Lord/Miller situation was a public clusterfukk, which may have played a part too...
