I saw Star Wars in the theater in McMillin Mall (or whatever it was called) in West Monroe when I was about 5. I love every one of the original trilogy.
The films that came later are a travesty and sold the soul of the franchise to bad computer generated effects.

Saw it the first week of release, and I knew immediately that movie making would never be the same. It revolutionized the technologies used in movie making, both visual and audio.
George Lucas had a vision of what he wanted on the screen. He invented the means for creating those images, and he gave other movie makers the ability to use those inventione to put their visions on film too.

I saw it in the theater when I was 8.....then stayed 2 more times that day. I was an instant star wars geek. I had all the action figures and more. I had the esb figures as well but when rotj came out I was 14 and too cool.
As for those that claim to have never seen any of the original 3 movies, they are either lying or so insecure that they feel it would make them sound ultra cool if they claimed that they've never seen them because those movies are only for dorks.

It was opening weekend i was 10yro we were in spencer gifts at Bon Marche mall with our mom buying the latest black light poster...my brother was talking to a chick that worked there she told us you have to see this movie...so when went to the theater (that old grand room with the reclinable seats was one of the best ever in Baton Rouge)we waited in line three hours for the late show...It was one of the greatest movie experiences of my life and one of the fondest memories of the 70s

I was five when it came out. I remember my dad had a brand new 78' Ford pickup and we went to see it at the Joy Drive Inn on the westbank. If I remember correctly that before Empire came out in 1980 they re-released Star wars to the theaters again. Maybe 79 or early 80'. I think this helped suck me and alot of younger kids into the hoopla even more.
and yes it was a phenomena back then. My dad is pretty redneck and even he went to see it. and that's usually not his cup of tea

I was 18 and just about to enter the Naval Academy. My Uncle who was a WW2 and Korean Fighter Ace said "Hey come see this new movie with me". I didn't really know anything about it. I was floored with how good it was. I kept looking aver at my Uncle and he was gripping his arm rests with a death grip during the space combat scenes. Afterwards he said, "Oh my god, that was just like real fighter combat." I couldn't think of any higher praise.
