For some reason, I still have the Dolemite box set on VHS in my attic. Not sure what to do with it.

As a kid at the video store ... we'd always go check out the blaxploitation section ... just to laugh at the "Blacula" cover.

Lots of guilty pleasures in there. Those movies (and I'll stipulate that a lot of them were just crap) heavily influenced Hollywood films during the action film Renaissance of the 1980s.

Has "Rosewood" been mentioned yet?

Rosewood was solid. In retrospect, I shouldn't have watched it as a 12-year-old. I hated white people for a month.

haven't read this thread, but i'll say the most watchable black movie for me is Barbershop. Not the best by any means, but I'll always flip to it if it's on.

Juice is a great movie that hasn't been mentioned. Tupac's character Bishop is legendary, and it is rumored Tupac took on the Bishop persona in real life.

Others not mentioned...

Cooley High
Dead Presidents
Love Jones
Crooklyn

"Head of State", while not truly the best is my personal favorite.

"Coming to America" is certainly the best by any observable metric.

"Undercover Brother" is always a hit at my house.

Boomerang would be my personal favorite, ranking slightly above Coming to America.

A sexy Robin Givens, hot Lela Rochon (even with the Hammertoes) and a young Halle Berry.

David Allan Grier, Martin Lawrence, Grace Jones, Tisha Campbell, Geoffrey Holder, John Witherspoon, Chris Rock, & Eartha Kitt made up a great supporting cast.

Boyz N the Hood and Friday are the best black movies, imo.
