I dug it, but then, I was exactly that age in 1984 and did exactly the same things these kids are doing, minus the inter-dimensional membranes and nosebleeding psychic chicks.
Dig Dug sucked though. I'd have dominated any of them in Tempest, Asteroids, Defender or Joust.

Loved seeing them get pissed at what a fricking quarter eater of a game Dragon's Lair is.

No shite, but the fact that they even played it lowered them in my esteem. That game was such a ripoff, basically just an expensive memorization game. You didn't know what the right move was until you spent $5 exploring all of the wrong ones, and that was for every level.
The early/mid 80's arcade is definitely a major happy place for me. Just hearing all of the games in their test modes is like a drug.

Did anyone like that game? Everyone saw it and had to try it, but I don't know anyone who didn't walk away blasting it for sucking so bad.
